About the Summit Field Trips
Growing School Garden Summit Field Trips are an opportunity for Summit attendees to experience exemplary school garden and cooking programs in the Phoenix area.
- Field Trips will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
- 55-Passenger Coach buses will board from the Arizona Grand Resort starting at 9:45am and will return to the hotel before 2:00pm. Packed lunches will be provided by Sprouts.
- Readiness grants will be available for sites that request them to help field trip locations prepare/enhance their site and/or to purchase field trip materials.
- Field Trip Proposals are due by August 15, 2025. Accepted proposals will be notified by September 15, 2025.
- If accepted, field trip program planners will be asked to complete a field trip planning logistics form, a readiness grant budget, and post-Summit feedback. You may also be asked to host a pre-Summit field trip site visit.
What Makes for an Engaging Field Trip?
Over the past two Summits, we have hosted field trips that have visited multiple sites during the 4-hour time slot and others that have created a diversified lineup of programming at a single site location. See field trip descriptions from the 2024 Summit.
Below are some suggestions to create an engaging field trip proposal.
- Consider the comfort of your visitors (shade, seating, restrooms, etc.)
- Good Timing: Allocate sufficient time for travel / transitions
- Variety of On-site Experiences / Engaged Learning
- Modeling various types of lessons
- Harvesting/Cooking!
- Student share-outs
- If visiting more than one site, consider sharing various types of programming
- While in-transit, share about the area, preview the next stop and encourage networking
- Recognize and highlight the culture & community you are visiting
